Care is essential to our survival. As a society, we should be providing conditions that allow all to receive the care they need. That should include those who are doing the caring. Mothers need care too. Is it any wonder that we feel so fragmented when we lack someone to share in the burden? This writing practice is a place for us to come together, share in our burdens and shift how we see and perform care work.

“Transformation does not have a name or a label, it has a sound. Listen. Listen closely. Can you hear it? The revolution will not be a movement. It will be birthed.”

— LISA FACTORA-BORCHERS, BIRTHING A NEW FEMINISM

This will be an ongoing monthly circle for those who have previously taken a circle and are looking to continue their practice in a group setting. Each call will be 90-minutes over Zoom. This is also the only place where some craft will be layered into each gathering. The poetry and writing themes will alternate with the larger focus being a more supported motherhood — now and for future mothers.

The process.

"The writing group is more than just a writing group. It's a supportive community that feels like family. In this circle, I've found kindred spirits who understand the ups and downs of motherhood. The sense of camaraderie and solidarity we share is truly heartwarming. It's a place where we lift each other up, celebrate our wins, and navigate the challenges of motherhood together. I'm grateful for the connections and friendships I've made here!"

— Maggie, mother of two under four

"The mother’s writing group has given me practical tools that I can now use outside of our circle. This group has given me a creative outlet and a coping skill that I'll carry with me beyond our sessions!"

— Lauren, mother of two under three

Questions?

  • These circles will resume in early 2025. Make sure you are on the interest list to save your spot!

  • Each circle will last for 90-minutes. While a writing packet will be provided with additional readings and writing prompts, those are always optional.

  • There will be no more than 12 individuals in the circle. Keeping these circles small and intimate allows safety and comfortability in sharing. It also allows space for those that wish to share to do so.

  • This circle will cost $65 per session. There will also be a sliding scale.

  • Please join the interest list above if you've previously taken a circle with me. As I prepare to open the next iteration in early 2025, information will be sent to the interest list first.

  • Absolutely not. Experienced and unexperienced are all welcome. This isn’t a writing class — poetry and writing are merely the tools to access our inner world and give voice to feelings.

  • This group is open to mothers at any stage in their mothering who have previously taken a circle with me.

  • Yes! Absolutely. This circle is for anyone who identifies as a mother and has taken on that social role. Whether you birthed your child, adopted or otherwise.

  • I’m happy to answer any questions that you may have. Feel free to email hello@joinspool.com or visit the contact page.
